Big Ten Women's Golf Set to Open 2010 Campaign

The 2010 Big Ten women’s golf season is set to commence this weekend with six Big Ten teams in action. Indiana, Michigan, Northwestern, Penn State, Purdue and Wisconsin will open the spring slate against some of the top teams in the nation at the 54-hole Lady Puerto Rico Classic at the Coco Beach Golf Club in Rio Grande, Puerto Rico.

The Boilermakers will look to defend their 2009 team crown when the 16-team field begins tournament play on Sunday, Feb. 7. Hoosier senior Laura Nochta also returns to the event with hopes of repeating as individual champion. Nochta tied Purdue’s Maria Hernandez for the top spot at least year’s tournament with a three-round total of 219 (72-74-73).

On Monday, the Michigan State Spartans will travel west for a meeting with Ohio State at the Northrop Grumman Regional Challenge, Feb. 8-10, in Palos Verdes, Calif.

Regular season action continues up until April 23-25, when the Badgers play host to the 2010 Big Ten Championships at the University Ridge golf course.
