Illinois' Cook Tabbed Women's Golfer of the Week
April 14, 2005
Complete Release in PDF Format Kristine Cook, Illinois Cook captured medalist honors at the Illini Spring Classic over the weekend, leading the Illinois to its first team tournament title of the 2004-05 season. Cook shot 6-over par during the 36-hole event, with a 78 in round one and an even-par 72 in round two, which ranked as the lowest round of the tournament. Cook tied for first out of 60 golfers with Ball State's Carmen Bodine, but was awarded medalist due to a tie-breaker of having the lowest final round score. Cook is the first Illini freshman to win a tournament title in 10 years, since Karen Karmazin in 1995. Cook is the second Illini golfer to earn recognition from the Conference in as many weeks. Megan Godfrey was honored for her efforts last week. This marks the first time since the League began Golfer of the Week honors in 1999 that Illinois has captured the award in back-to-back weeks.
