The first round of play is in the books for the Big Ten’s five women’s golf teams at the NCAA Regional Championships as Purdue leads the charge in the team standings in the Central Regional at Otter Creek Golf Club in Columbus, Ind. The Boilermakers are third in the team standings at 15-over par, six strokes back of first-place Arizona State. Michigan State is 10th at 22-over par, one stroke back of eighth place. Indiana is 16th in the standings at 30-over par and Northwestern is 18th at 33-over par.
Individually, Purdue’s Thea Hoffmeister is tied for the lead, firing a two-under par 70. Northwestern’s Kelsey Lindenschmidt and Michigan State’s Aimee Neff are tied for 15th place after rounds of three-over par 75.
In the West Regional in Stanford, Calif., Ohio State is eighth in the team standings after finishing with a 12-over par 296. Vicky Villanueva paces the Buckeyes at even par, which is tied for sixth on the individual leaderboard.
Round two begins at 8 a.m. local time on Friday.
