The No. 6 ranked Purdue women's golf team will represent the Big Ten Conference this week at the 2008 NCAA Women's Golf Championships. The event will be held May 20-23, at the University of New Mexico Championship Golf Course (Par 72 - 7,248 yards) in Albuquerque, N.M., hosted by the University of New Mexico. Twenty-four teams and six individuals from across the country will compete for the team and individual titles. After a second-place finish at the Central Regional, Purdue advances to its ninth-straight NCAA Championships. The Boilermakers shot a 54-hole score of 861 (288-294-285) to claim runner-up honors. Big Ten Player of the Year Maria Hernandez took home the top individual award along with UCLA's Maria Jose Uriba as the two recorded an identical (-8) 208. Teammate Christel Boeljon was not far behind Hernandez tying for eighth, posting a (+1) 217. Freshmen Maude-Aimee LeBlanc and Junthima Gulyamamitta provided solid play for the Boilermakers registering 223 and 225 strokes and placing tied-for-22nd and tied-for-30th, respectively. Rounding out the Purdue contingent was junior Stephanie Oukeo shooting a 235 and placing tied-for-71st. At the 2007 NCAA Championships, Purdue brought home the second-place team trophy, which was the best finish in school and Big Ten history. Boeljon tied-for-runner-up honors as an individual and was later named one of the four finalists for the Honda Sports Award. Competition begins on Tuesday and Purdue is paired with third-ranked Duke and No. 5 Arizona State. The Boilermakers will begin teeing off on hole No. 1 at 3:20 p.m. ET.
