NCAA Women's Golf Championships Underway

Three Big Ten teams travel to Franklin, Tenn., this week to compete in the 2012 NCAA Women's Golf Championships. Michigan State, Ohio State and Purdue each qualified for the championships by virtue of their top-eight regional finish. The championships will be held at the Vanderbilt Legends Club, hosted by Vanderbilt University. Twenty-four teams and six individuals will compete in the championships, which begins on Tuesday and concludes on Friday.

The Spartans are making their 10th NCAA Championships appearance and first since 2009. Michigan State tied for sixth in the East Regional and were paced by Lindsey Solberg's even-par 216.

Purdue finished third in the Central Regional to lock up its 13th consecutive championships appearance. Big Ten Player of the year Laura Gonzalez-Escallon led the Boilermakers in regional play, firing a 1-under 71 in the final round of regional action.

The Buckeyes are making their Big Ten-leading 18th NCAA Championships appearance. Ohio State earned a championships berth after taking sixth in the Central Regional. Rachel Rohanna paced the Buckeyes at regionals, tying for seventh individually.
