The Big Ten announced its 2013-14 Men’s and Women's Golfers to Watch Lists on Wednesday, with three student-athletes from each conference team decorating the list. Twenty-seven golfers were named to the preseason watch list for the second consecutive season, with 15 student-athletes having previously earned All-Big Ten honors.
The Men’s Golfers to Watch List features 11 players who garnered recognition last year: Illinois’ Thomas Detry, Indiana’s David Mills, Iowa’s Steven Ihm and Joseph Winslow, Michigan’s Noori Hyun, Northwestern’s Jack Perry, Ohio State’s Boo Timko and Grant Weaver, Penn State’s Jens Talbert, Purdue’s Adam Schenk and Wisconsin’s Thomas O’Bryan. Ihm, Mills, Perry and Schenk have all previously been named first-team All-Big Ten. Detry and teammate Brian Campbell, Timko and Winslow have all received second-team recognition.
On the women’s side, 16 golfers are repeat selections to the Preseason Golfers to Watch List: Illinois’ Samantha Postillion and Ember Schuldt, Indiana’s Elizabeth Tong, Iowa’s Lauren English and Shelby Phillips, Michigan’s Lauren Grogan, Michigan State’s Allyssa Ferrell and Liz Nagel, Minnesota’s Carmen Laguna, Nebraska’s Cassie Deeg, Steffi Neisen and Katelyn Wright, Northwestern’s Hana Lee, Penn State’s Elyse Archambault and Ellen Ceresko and Wisconsin’s Kris Yoo. Lee and Park were both first-team All-Big Ten picks last season, while Ferrell and teammate Christine Meier, Nagel, Yoo and Purdue’s Aurora Kan have previously been named to the second team.
The 2013-14 Big Ten men’s and women's golf seasons officially begin this weekend, with five men’s and women’s squads taking to the course for the first time.
