Big Ten Women's Golf Opens Fall Season This Weekend

The Big Ten women's golf season officially begins this weekend with nine of the 12 conference teams taking to the course for the first competition of the fall. Two Big Ten squads enter the season ranked in the Golf World/NGCA Coaches Poll with Purdue at No. 6 and Michigan State at No. 19. Indiana hosts the IU Fall Classic on Saturday and Sunday to kick off the campaign. Minnesota, Penn State and Wisconsin head to the Cougar Classic in Charleston, S.C., and Michigan State travels to College Station, Texas, for the "Mo" Morial Invitational. Both tournaments are set to take place on Sunday-Tuesday. Illinois, Iowa, Nebraska and Northwestern each compete in tournaments on Monday and Tuesday to begin the season. The Hawkeyes travel to the Chip-N Club Invitational, hosted by the Huskers. The Fighting Illini head to Ft. Collins, Colo., for the Ptargmigan Ram Classic, while the Wildcats compete in the Dale McNamara Invitational in Tulsa, Okla. Michigan and Ohio State begin the season at the Mary Fossum Invitational in East Lansing, Mich., on Sept. 17-18, while Purdue travels to Franklin, Tenn., for the Mason Rudolph Fall Preview on Sept. 23-25.
