ROSEMONT, Ill. – The 2018 Big Ten women’s gymnastics season begins this weekend as seven conference teams compete for the first time. Competition opens on Friday evening when No. 7 Michigan hosts No. 4 Alabama in a top-10 showdown and Michigan State welcomes Bowling Green.

The action on Saturday is headlined by a top-25 meet between No. 22 Ohio State and No. 6 UCLA in Los Angeles, Calif., while No. 25 Penn State hosts Eastern Michigan. No. 20 Iowa, Maryland and Rutgers open the 2018 season on the road at multi-team meets.

Three teams begin the regular season the following week (Jan. 13) as No. 23 Illinois travels to Rutgers, No. 9 Nebraska ventures to Penn State and Minnesota hosts Maryland, Winona State and Northern Illinois.

Heading into the season, six conference teams are ranked in the Road to Nationals Preseason Coaches’ Poll: No. 7 Michigan, No. 9 Nebraska, No. 20 Iowa, No. 22 Ohio State, No. 23 Illinois and No. 25 Penn State.

The 2018 Big Ten Championships will be held in Champaign, Ill., on March 24.
