Michigan and Penn State Earn Women’s Gymnastics Weekly Honors

Gymnast of the Week
Olivia Karas, Michigan
Jr. – Chicago, Ill. – Latin School of Chicago

• Finished first in the all-around competition with a score of 39.350 in the Wolverines’ season-opening win over No. 4 Alabama
• Claimed the individual event title on floor (9.925), tied for fourth on bars (9.875) and vault (9.825), and took sixth on beam (9.725)
• Posted the top all-around score in the conference and eighth nationally over the weekend
• The Academic All-Big Ten honoree earns her fifth career Gymnast of the Week honor and first of the season

Event Specialist of the Week
Brianna Brown, Michigan
Sr. – Alexandria, Va. – Lakota West (Ohio)

• Notched a team-high 9.900 on bars to tie for second in the event in Michigan’s victory over No. 4 Alabama
• The score led the Big Ten and tied for seventh nationally
• The two-time Academic All-Big Ten honoree collects her first Big Ten Event Specialist of the Week honor

Freshman of the Week
Lauren Bridgens, Penn State
Darnestown, Md. – Quince Orchard

• Posted five top-five finishes in her collegiate debut, helping the Nittany Lions defeat Eastern Michigan
• Recorded a 39.050 to tie for first place in the all-around competition
• Tied for the vault title (9.825), placed second on uneven bars (9.800), finished fourth on beam (9.700) and fourth on floor (9.725)
