Buckley, Teike Win Women's Gymnastics Weekly Awards

Gymnast of the Week
Allison Buckley, Illinois

Buckley finished first in the all-around at last weekend’s Nebraska triangular as the Illini finished second in the team standings. The junior finished each event with a score of 9.750 or better and won the balance beam with a 9.850, her 30th career event title. She was the highest Illinois finisher in two other events, placing second on vault (9.900) and third in the floor exercise (9.775). She finished ninth on the uneven bars (9.750) and earns the second Gymnast of the Week award of her career.

Freshman of the Week
Shanthi Teike, Michigan State
Columbus, Ind./Columbus North

Teike ended Saturday’s tri-meet against Iowa and Illinois-Chicago as the top freshman finisher in the all-around, where she placed third overall, helping the Spartans to a first-place team finish with 194.425 points. The freshman finished the day with two top-three finishes, including a second-place effort in the floor exercise (9.800) and a third-place showing on vault (9,800). She placed seventh on the balance beam (9.700) and 11th on the uneven bars (9.500) as she wins her first weekly conference award.
