Big Ten Women's Gymnastics Weekly Honors Announced

Gymnast of the Week Michigan's Kylee Botterman collects her third Big Ten Gymnast of the Week honor this season after winning the all-around title, along with three individual event crowns and leading the eighth-ranked Wolverines to a quad-meet win on Saturday. Botterman scored a 39.525 en route to her fourth all-around title in four meets this season. The New Lenox, Ill., native also set or tied season highs and earned first-place finishes in three events, tallying a 9.925 on the bars, a 9.900 in the floor exercise and a 9.875 on the balance beam. Botterman rounded out her competition with a 9.825 on the vault, good for a second-place finish. She currently ranks third in the country in all-around average (39.456). Last Michigan Gymnast of the Week: Kylee Botterman (Jan. 17, 2011) Co-Freshman of the Week Kayla Slechta turned in three top-two performances to lead No. 18 Minnesota past Air Force on Saturday and earn her first Big Ten weekly award. Slechta posted a 9.850 on the vault to tie for first place and tied for second in the floor exercise (9.850) and on the uneven bars (9.800). The vault title was her third in four meets this season, while the floor and bars scores marked personal highs. Last Minnesota Freshman of the Week: Dusti Russell (Jan. 17, 2011) Melanie Shaffer, Ohio State Ohio State's Melanie Shaffer takes home Co-Freshman of the Week laurels after earning top honors in two events to help the 21st-ranked Buckeyes defeat Bowling Green and Western Michigan on Sunday. Shaffer received a 9.850 in the floor exercise and a 9.825 on the vault en route to first-place finishes in both events. The newcomer also turned in a 9.800 on the balance beam, good for a tie for third. Shaffer set or tied career-high scores in all three events.
