The 2011 Big Ten Women's Gymnastics Championships are set to take place on Saturday at the University of Minnesota's Sports Pavilion. The championships get underway at 2:05 p.m. CT and will be broadcast live by the Big Ten Network.
Michigan looks to earn its fifth straight Big Ten title and 19th overall at this year's championships. The Wolverines posted top-two team scores in all four events en route to their 18th Big Ten Championship in 2010. Kylee Botterman and Sarah Curtis return to lead the ninth-ranked Wolverines after receiving first-team All-Big Ten honors last season.
Four other 2010 first-team all-conference honorees return to this year's championships. Illinois' Allison Buckley and Melissa Fernandez, Iowa's Rebecca Simbhudas and Penn State's Sharaya Musser all earned the honor last season, while Musser also picked up Big Ten Freshman of the Year laurels. Three gymnasts enter the championships looking to defend event titles, as Iowa's Houry Gebeshian (balance beam), Michigan's Natalie Beilstein (vault) and Penn State's Natalie Ettl (uneven bars) all won crowns in 2010.
