Big Ten Women's Gymnastics Set For NCAA Regional Championships
March 31, 2011
All seven Big Ten women's gymnastics teams will compete in NCAA Regional Championships on Saturday with hopes of earning bids to the NCAA Championships.
The conference will be represented at three regionals. Michigan earned a No. 2 seed and will host No. 3 Ohio State and No. 5 Minnesota in the Ann Arbor Regional, while No. 3 seed Iowa and No. 6 seed Michigan State will travel to the Corvallis Regional. Second-seeded Penn State and No. 3 seed Illinois will compete in the Tuscaloosa Regional.
Michigan was the lone Big Ten team to automatically qualify for the NCAA Championships last season. The conference also sent six individual gymnasts to the event.
The top two teams and the top two all-around competitors who are not on an advancing team from each regional will receive an automatic berth to the national championships. In addition, the event winners at each regional will advance to the national championships in that event only if they are not part of a qualifying team or an all-around qualifier.
