Michigan Advances to NCAA Championships

Following the conclusion of Saturday night's NCAA Regional Championships, one Big Ten squad earned a spot at the national championships and seven Big Ten gymnasts qualified individually for nationals, which will take place April 22-24 at the University of Florida.

After falling short of the national meet in 2009, Michigan was second at the West Virginia Regional on Saturday, finishing with a team score of 195.800 to advance to their 18th NCAA Championships. Three Wolverine gymnasts won events Saturday night as Kylee Botterman won the all-around championship (39.550) and shared the floor exercise title with teammate Natalie Beilstein (9.900), while Jordan Sexton won the uneven bars crown (9.950).

Additionally, six Big Ten student-athletes advanced to the NCAA Championships after finishing among the top competitors in their regional's all-around competition. Illinois' Sarah Schmidt and Michigan State's Nicole Curler advanced out of the Lexington Regional, Iowa's Rebecca Simbhudas and Minnesota's Alexis Russell made it through the Columbia Regional, and Penn State's Brandi Personett and Sharaya Musser earned spots at the national meet out of the University Park Regional. Finishing as an individual event winner, Illinois' Allison Buckley will make a return trip to the national meet after winning the vault title at the Lexington Regional.
