Through Tuesday, the Big Ten will highlight each of the 24 student-athletes nominated for the conference's Athlete of the Year awards. Award winners are voted on by a pre-selected media panel and will be announced next week.

Joanna Sampson – Michigan – Women’s Gymnastics
The Big Ten Gymnast of the Year, Sampson captured the floor exercise title and tied for third in the all-around at the NCAA Championships, earning All-America recognition in the floor exercise and all-around, as well as on vault. The junior captain helped Michigan to a share of the inaugural regular-season conference championship and a seventh-place finish at the national meet. Sampson placed first in the all-around in eight of the Wolverines’ 14 meets, winning or sharing 23 individual event titles, and was named NCAA Northeast Region Gymnast of the Year.
