The 2010 season of Indoor Track and Field is set to begin this weekend with six Big Ten women's teams in action across the conference landscape.
Michigan leads off the first leg of weekend competition when it travels to Akron, Ohio, for the Akron Opener. The Wolverines will be vying against Akron, Buffalo and Pittsburgh, with competition slated to begin at 7 p.m. ET.
On Saturday, the Ohio State Buckeyes will kick of their season as they play host to the Buckeye Classic in the newly renovated French Fieldhouse. Indiana's 2010 campaign also begins Saturday as the Hoosiers make ready to host the Indiana Open in what will be the first of four straight home meets for IU.
Three other Big Ten teams will open their seasons at home as Minnesota, Penn State and Purdue prepare to host completion on Saturday. The Nittany Lions enter the 2010 campaign as the No. 10-ranked team in the country according to the United States Track and Field/Cross Country Association (USTFCCCA) preseason rankings.
Also making an appearance in the preseason coaches' poll is Illinois, checking in at No. 19 in the national rankings. The Orange and Blue open up the indoor season at the SASF Invitational in Carbondale, Ill., from Jan. 15-16 before returning home the following week for the Carle/Health Alliance Classic at the University of Illinois Armory on Jan. 23.
Iowa, Michigan State and Wisconsin are also set to open their indoor campaigns the following weekend on Saturday, Jan. 15.
