Women’s Track Athlete of the Week

Tiffany Ofili, Michigan
Sr., Ypsilanti, Mich. / Ypsilanti

Ofili kicked off her season with a bang at the Akron Quad this past Friday, winning all three of her events, including two sprints.  Her winning times in the 60- and 200-meter dashes clocked in at 7.59 and 24.25, respectively.  In the sand, Ofili leaped 19-11 (6.07m.), recording the meet’s best long jump.  The two-time NCAA outdoor 100-meter hurdles champion brings home her fourth Big Ten indoor weekly honor.

Women’s Co-Field Athletes of the Week

Tiffany Howard, Indiana
Sr., Indianapolis, Ind. / North Central

At the Indiana Open this past Saturday, Howard dominated the shot put with a winning toss of 51-11.25 (15.83m.).  She bettered the second-place competitor by 76 centimeters and picked up an NCAA provisionally qualifying mark.  Her distance is a new personal-best and currently ranks fourth on Indiana’s all-time top performance list.  Howard receives her first career Big Ten Field Athlete of the Week award.

Alicia Rue, Minnesota
Jr., Plymouth, Minn. / Armstrong

Competing at the Norwest Open this past Saturday, Rue took home first place in the pole vault, wining the event by a foot.  Her clearance of 13-3.5 (4.05m.) provisionally qualifies her for the NCAA meet in College Station, Texas.  Rue, last year’s Big Ten indoor pole vault champion, is honored with her third weekly indoor award.
