The conference office announced on Monday the fourth weekly men’s indoor track and field awards for meets through January 25-30. Penn State’s Shavon Greaves posted three NCAA marks to earn the nod as Track Athlete of the Week while Wisconsin’s Megan Seidl earned the weekly field award.
Track Athlete of the Week:
Shavon Greaves, Penn State
Jr. - Lakewood, N.J. - Lakewood
Shavon Greaves motored to a school-record 7.25 in the 60-meters semi-finals at the Penn State National last weekend, finishing second-to-only St. Augustine's Barbara Pierre, who clocked a blistering 7.18 - the second-fastest time in the world this year - to set a new facility record. Greaves' mark bested Nittany Lion great Connie Moore, who clocked 7.27 in 2004, and is also the second best mark in Division I this season and an NCAA automatic qualifier. Greaves wasn't finished, however, resetting her own Penn State best, and NCAA leading time 90 minutes later, with a scorching 7.24 to finish second in the final. After posting a school-record and auto-qualifying 7.24 in the 60-meters on Friday, Greaves continued to shine, winning the invitational 200-meters in an NCAA automatic 23.16, which is also a new meet and facility record. Greaves, who is the NCAA leader in the 60, is currently the second-fastest collegian in the one-lap 200. Greaves would also run the third leg of the winning 4x400-meter relay, helping the Penn State quartet finish in 3:37.57 - the Lions' fastest performance of the year, and sixth-best in the NCAA. This is the second weekly laurel for Greaves this season.
Last Penn State Indoor Athlete of the Week: Fawn Dorr (Jan. 18, 2010)
Field Athlete of the Week:
Megan Seidl, Wisconsin
Sr. - Brown Deer, Wis. - Brown Deer
Seidl leaped to the top of the Big Ten list in the high jump in leading the Badgers to a team win at the Wisconsin Elite Invitational. The senior topped a 13-year-old school record with her clearance of six feet, 3/4 inches (1.85 meters), a mark good enough not only to win the event but also automatically qualify her for the NCAA indoor championships. With the new mark, Seidl tied for fourth place nationally in the event. Seidl’s jump was one of three record-breaking performances on a day that saw the Badgers put together an outstanding all-around meet with eight event wins on their way to a team victory. This is the first weekly field award for Seidl and the first for a Badger since January, 2007.
Last Wisconsin Field Athlete of the Week: Melissa Talbot (Jan. 30, 2007)
