Athlete of the Week
Heather Dorniden, Minnesota
FR, Inver Grove Heights, Minn./Rosemount

Dorniden collects her first Athlete of the Week honor after posting NCAA automatic and provisional qualifying standards at the Meyo Invitational over the weekend.  On the first day of competition, the freshman shattered the Minnesota's 800-meter record, clocking in at 2:04.30, recording her second-fastest collegiate mark this season and automatically qualifying for NCAA Championships. She went on to help her distance medley relay notch a provisional time of 11:10.40 as Dorniden ran the 800-meter leg of the relay in 2:05.70. The foursome broke the previous school record by nearly 25 seconds and finished second in the event. The Inver Grove Heights, Minn., native is the first Gopher to earn weekly honors since Liz Roehrig claimed the laurel on Feb. 1, 2005.
