The conference office announced on Monday the sixth weekly women’s indoor track and field awards for meets through February 8-14. Penn State’s Bridget Franek and Minnesota’s Alicia Rue posted NCAA automatic qualifying marks last week to earn the weekly laurels.
Track Athlete of the Week:
Bridget Franek, Penn State
Sr. - Hiram, Ohio – Crestwood
Bridget Franek finished third in the highly-touted 5,000-meter invitational at the Husky Classic, finishing in a personal-best 15:56.76 - just over three seconds off the Penn State school record. Franek finished behind top distance athletes Nicole Blood of Oregon (15:51.59), and Jackie Areson of Tennessee (15:51.59), who headlined a field that saw eight runners go under the NCAA automatic standard (16:07.50), and another 15 better the provisional qualifier (16:44.50). Franek's performance is the fourth fastest in the NCAA this year, and the best mark among Big Ten competitors.

Alicia Rue, Minnesota
Sr. - Plymouth, Minn. – Armstrong
Senior Alicia Rue topped the list of Gopher performers in action on Friday at the Iowa State Classic in Ames, Iowa with a leap of 14 feet, 3.25 inches. The Plymouth, Minn., native placed second in the pole vault competition while posting her fourth NCAA automatic qualifier of the season. The meet marked her eighth clearance over 14 feet this season. This is the third weekly indoor field award on the year for Rue and her eighth overall.
