ROSEMONT, Ill. - Four Big Ten teams were selected to the 2015 NCAA Women's Lacrosse Tournament, as announced on the NCAA Selection Show Sunday night. Maryland, Northwestern, Ohio State and Penn State will represent the conference in this year's bracket, which will get underway on Friday, May 8.
Maryland earned the No. 1 overall seed in the NCAA Tournament, and received a bye in the opening round. The Terrapins will host the winner of Friday's Massachusetts-Jacksonville game in the second round on Sunday, May 10. The Terps claimed the outright Big Ten Championship, and enter the NCAA Championship with a 17-1 record. Northwestern claimed the No. 8 seed in the NCAA Championship, and will host Louisville on Friday, May 8. The Wildcats head into the NCAA Tournament with a 12-6 overall record, including a 12-10 victory over Louisville on March 29.
Ohio State will also play at Northwestern's Lakeside Field, and take on Notre Dame in the opening round on Friday. The Buckeyes are 13-7 on the season, and made a run to the championship game of the Big Ten Tournament.
Penn State earned the Big Ten's automatic berth to the NCAA Championship after claiming the Big Ten Tournament title. The Nittany Lions, who have won nine of their last 10 games, will take on Johns Hopkins on Friday in Charlottesville, Va.
Eight sites will host first- and second-round competition Friday, May 8, and Sunday, May 10, and four quarterfinal games will be played Saturday, May 16 or Sunday, May 17. Those preliminary-round games will be played on the campuses of competing institutions.
The winners of the four quarterfinal games will advance to the semifinals and final hosted by Saint Joseph's University May 22 and 24 at PPL Park in Philadelphia. The semifinal games will be shown live on ESPN3 at 5 and 7:30 p.m. ET on May 22. The championship game will air on ESPNU at 8:30 p.m., on May 24.
