Big Ten Announces Women's Lacrosse All-Big Ten Team

ROSEMONT, Ill. - The 2017 Big Ten women’s lacrosse All-Conference team was announced on Wednesday, with outright Big Ten Champion Maryland claiming a conference-high seven selections. The All-Big Ten team was comprised of 20 standouts, including three attackers, three midfielders, three defenders and one goalkeeper, along with 10 at-large selections.

The Terrapins’ All-Big Ten honorees include unanimous selections Nadine Hadnagy, Zoe Stukenberg, Megan Taylor, and Megan Whittle. Julia Braig, Jen Giles and Caroline Wannen also claimed All-Big Ten distinction, rounding out the Terrapins’ honorees. Top-ranked Maryland enters the Big Ten Tournament with an unblemished 17-0 record.

The Nittany Lions’ All-Big Ten recipients feature Madison Carter, Steph Lazo, Katie O’Donnell, Natalie Schmitt and Abby Smucker. Lazo was a unanimous honoree. Penn State enters the Big Ten Tournament as the No. 2 seed and went 15-2 in the regular season.

Johns Hopkins’ Nevi Fernandez, Emily Kenul and Haley Schweizer were each named to the All-Big Ten team. Northwestern saw Christina Esposito, Catie Ingrilli and Claire Quinn claim All-Big Ten distinction. Amanda Casten and Kristina Dunphey represented Rutgers on the All-Big Ten team.

The Big Ten also announced six Sportsmanship Award Honorees. The players chosen are individuals who have distinguished themselves through sportsmanship and ethical behavior. In addition, the students must be in good academic standing and have demonstrated good citizenship outside of the sports-competition setting. This season's honorees are Johns Hopkins’ Maddie Bodden, Maryland’s Bairre Reilly, Michigan’s Emily Braun, Northwestern’s Danita Stroup, Ohio State’s Paulina Constant, Penn State’s Erika Spilker and Rutgers' Alana Navaroli.

The Attack Player, Midfielder, Defensive Player and Goaltender of the Year, along with the Freshman and Coach of the Year, will be announced on Monday, May 8 following the conclusion of the Big Ten Tournament.
