Maryland and Penn State Advance to NCAA Quarterfinals

No. 1 MARYLAND 14, Johns Hopkins 8

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Sophomore Megan Whittle scored four goals as the No. 1 Maryland lacrosse team defeated No. 19 Johns Hopkins, 14-8, in the NCAA Second Round on Sunday afternoon.

Maryland advanced to the NCAA quarterfinals, where the Terrapins will host Massachusetts next Sunday.

PENN STATE 14, No. 2 Florida 13 (OT)

GAINESVILLE, Fla. -- Ten tie scores, 11 lead changes and countless changes in momentum saw the 11th-ranked Nittany Lion women's lacrosse team come out victorious over No. 2 Florida, 14-13, on Steph Lazo 's overtime goal in an NCAA Second Round game Sunday at Dizney Lacrosse Stadium.

Penn State returns to Happy Valley to face Penn Quakers next Saturday.

No. 6 Notre Dame 15, NORTHWESTERN 3

SOUTH BEND, Ind.
-- Northwestern fell to No. 6-seed Notre Dame in the second round of the NCAA Tournament at Arlotta Stadium Sunday afternoon, 15-3.

The Wildcats were doomed by 13 first-half turnovers and failed to score in the second half thanks in part to the stellar play of Fighting Irish goalkeeper Samantha Giacolone's seven saves in the final 30 minutes of play.
