Two Big Ten head women’s lacrosse coaches were honored by the Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Association (IWLCA) on Monday, with Maryland mentor Cathy Reese claiming National Coach of the Year honors and Penn State’s Missy Doherty collecting West/Midwest Coach of the Year plaudits. Reese was also tabbed the South Region Coach of the Year.
In the inaugural year of Big Ten lacrosse, Reese guided the Terrapins to their second straight national championship. Maryland finished the season with a 21-1 record, including a 5-0 mark in Big Ten play, and won the outright Big Ten title. Reese was also named the IWLCA National Coach of the Year in 2010 and 2014.
Doherty, who was also named the unanimous Big Ten Coach of the Year, guided Penn State to 14 wins, the inaugural Big Ten Tournament Championship and the program's 21st appearance in the NCAA Tournament.
