Fifteen Big Ten women’s lacrosse players were named 2016 preseason All-Americans by Face-Off Yearbook, including five first-teamers.
Representing the conference on the preseason All-America first-team were Maryland’s Taylor Cummings, Alice Mercer and Megan Whittle, along with Northwestern’s Selena Lasota and Penn State’s Abby Smucker. All five students were named to the inaugural All-Big Ten team, while Cummings was tabbed the Big Ten Female Athlete of the Year after leading the Terrapins to the 2015 national championship.
Second-team preseason All-Americans included the Terrapins’ Nadine Hadnagy and Zoe Stukenberg, who claimed All-Big Ten honors last season and was the NCAA Elite 89 Award winner.
Third-team selections included Northwestern’s Selena Lasota and Penn State’s Madison Cyr and Jenna Mosketti. Lasota was named the inaugural Big Ten Freshman of the Year and claimed All-Big Ten honors, as did Cyr.
Big Ten standouts comprising the honorable mention All-America team included Northwestern’s Lindsay Darrell, Ohio State’s Rainey Hodgson and Penn State’s Steph Lazo and Katie O’Donnell.
The 2016 Big Ten women’s lacrosse season will commence in February. The Big Ten Tournament will be hosted by Northwestern from May 5-8.
