Big Ten rowing opens the 2013 campaign this weekend, with Minnesota traveling to Oklahoma City, Okla., for the Oklahoma Invite in the first meet of the season. All seven of the Big Ten rowing squads will compete in their first regattas in March.
Indiana follows the Golden Gophers a week later, competing in its season opener on March 16 against Boston University, Clemson, Marist and Syracuse in Clemson, S.C. Iowa opens its season the following weekend when the Hawkeyes travel to Austin, Texas, for the Longhorn Invitational from March 22-23.
Michigan, Michigan State, Ohio State and Wisconsin open their seasons on March 30. The Spartans host the Wolverines, along with Iowa and Notre Dame in East Lansing, Mich., while Ohio State travels to Princeton, N.J. to compete against the Tigers and Brown, and Wisconsin heads to Gainesville, Ga.
Michigan won its fifth Big Ten Championship and first since 2004 last season, with Ohio State and Wisconsin rounding out the conference's top three at the championships. Two Big Ten squads finished in the top five at the NCAA Championships, as Michigan took second and Ohio State finished fifth. The Michigan second varsity eight and Ohio State varsity four boats claimed national titles at the 2012 NCAA Championships, marking the first time that multiple Big Ten boats won national championships in the same season.
