Michigan State's First Varsity Eight

The Spartans' First Varsity Eight became the first V8 crew to head into the Big Ten Championships with a perfect record in program history after defeating No. 12 Washington State, No. 12 Oregon State and No. 22 Bucknell on Griggs Reservoir in Columbus, Ohio last week. With the trio of wins, the boat improved to a perfect 8-0 in the spring. The crew posted a time of 6:37.10 in its triumph over Oregon State on Saturday afternoon, clocking a season-best time and the best by any eight boat at the competition. The team also posted a time of 6:41.30 in their win over Washington State in Saturday’s morning session, and then capped off the weekend with a 6:59.30 finish in Sunday's competition against Bucknell. MSU’s first varsity eight consists of Laura Cowal, Lauren Gamble, Sarah Schmidt, Emily Regan, Monique Carter, Kellie Lapointe, Michelle Mussett, Victoria Woodard and Amanda McGeachie.
