2005 Big Ten Rowing Championships Seeds Announced

PARK RIDGE, IL - Four of the seven League rowing programs have claimed top seeds for the 2005 Big Ten Women's Rowing Championships. The sixth annual event, hosted by Indiana University, is set for Saturday, April 30 on Lake Lemon in Bloomington, Ind.
Michigan's I Varsity Eight crew, currently ranked No. 3 in the nation, is the top boat in that event, as well as in the II Varsity Four race. The Wolverines' I Varsity Eight boat was ranked as high as No. 2 for two consecutive weeks (April 6 and April 13) in the USRowing/Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association poll and earned Big Ten Boat of the Week honors two times this season. Michigan's boat defeated four top 10 teams en route to an undefeated spring season.
Ohio State has claimed the No. 1 seed in two events at this year's Championships, the II Varsity Eight and II Novice Eight. Coach Andy Teitelbaum's squad will vie for its second Conference crown, as the Buckeyes won the Big Ten Championships title in 2002.
Under the guidance of first-year head coach Bebe Bryans, Wisconsin's I Varsity Four claimed the top seed in that race. Bryans is no stranger to the Big Ten Championships, as prior to her time in Madison, she spent seven years at Michigan State. The Badgers' highest Big Ten Championships finish came last year when they finished in second place.
Michigan State's I Novice Eight boat enters this Saturday as the No. 1 seed in that event and is coming off an undefeated performance on April 16 when the squad topped Conference foes Wisconsin and Iowa.
Michigan is the defending Big Ten Champion and has won the title four times in the history of the event- 2000, 2001, 2003 and 2004.
