ROSEMONT, Ill. – For the second year in a row, five Big Ten teams were selected for the 2018 NCAA Division I Rowing Championships, the NCAA Rowing Committee announced on Tuesday. Indiana, Iowa, Michigan, Ohio State and Wisconsin earned berths into the national event, marking the second consecutive year five conference teams earned championship berths and the ninth time in the last 10 years at least four conference teams have participated in the NCAA Championships.
The Buckeyes earned the conference's automatic berth into the field after winning their sixth-consecutive Big Ten Championship last weekend. Ohio State aims for its fourth national title in six years after earning the conference's third NCAA Rowing Championship in 2015. The Buckeyes are making their 19th consecutive appearance in the event.
Indiana, Iowa, Michigan and Wisconsin earned at-large bids to the NCAA Championships. The Hoosiers are making their fifth appearance in the event, while the Hawkeyes secured their third appearance in program history and second consecutive visit to the championships. The Wolverines earned their bid in the regatta for the 11th consecutive season and 17th time overall. The Badgers earned their 11th straight berth in the national championships and 15th appearance overall.
The 2018 NCAA Championships will be held May 25-27 at Nathan Benderson Park in Sarasota, Florida, with the University of Central Florida serving as host. The regatta includes 22 teams and each team is required to field two boats of eight rowers and one boat of four rowers.
