ROSEMONT, Ill. -- Four Big Ten teams were selected for the 2015 NCAA Division I Rowing Championships, the NCAA Rowing Committee announced on Tuesday. Indiana, Michigan, Ohio State and Wisconsin earned berths into the national event, marking the sixth time in the last seven years four conference teams have participated in the NCAA Championships.
The Buckeyes earned the conference's automatic berth into the field after winning their third-consecutive Big Ten Championship last weekend. Ohio State aims for its third straight national title after earning the conference's second NCAA Rowing Championship last year. The Buckeyes are making their 16th consecutive appearance in the event and 16th overall. Additionally, two Ohio State boats aim to repeat as national champions, as the Buckeye first varsity eight and second varsity eight earned individual titles last year.
Indiana, Michigan and Wisconsin earned at-large bids to the NCAA Championships. The Hoosiers are making their second appearance in the event, while the Wolverines appear in the regatta for the seventh consecutive season and 13th time overall. The Badgers earned their eight-straight berth in the national championships and 12th appearance overall.
The 2015 NCAA Championships will be held May 29-31 at the Sacramento State Aquatic Center in Gold River, Calif., with the Pac-12 Conference serving as host. The regatta includes 22 teams and each team is required to field two boats of eight rowers and one boat of four rowers.
