All 12 Big Ten women's soccer teams hit the pitch for the first official action of the 2012 season this weekend, with 11 teams opening play on Friday. Seven of the conference's 12 teams begin the season on their home fields, while five are on the road to open 2012. Eleven conference squads will play two matches this weekend, and two schools will face ranked opponents.
Friday's slate begins with Michigan State traveling to take on Bowling Green and Michigan hosting Fordham both at 7 p.m. ET. Ohio State and preseason conference favorite Penn State each travel to meet their first opponents, with the Buckeyes visiting Hofstra and the No. 9 Nittany Lions taking on No. 7 Virginia, both at 7 p.m. ET.
Purdue and Indiana both welcome teams to their fields, as the Boilermakers face Toledo at 7 p.m. ET and the Hoosiers take on Arkansas State at 7:30 p.m. ET. Entering its second season as a member of the Big Ten, Nebraska travels to Oklahoma at 8 p.m. ET. Wisconsin welcomes Notre Dame to Madison, while No. 19 Illinois hosts Western Michigan, each at 8 p.m. ET.
Minnesota takes on its first of two ranked opponents this weekend when the Golden Gophers host No. 4 Florida State at 8 p.m. ET on Friday. Iowa rounds out the night's action when the Hawkeyes welcome Eastern Illinois to Iowa City at 8 p.m. ET. Northwestern opens its season on Sunday, traveling to Kansas for a 2 p.m. ET contest.
