PARK RIDGE, Ill. - Penn State edged out Ohio State as the favorite to win the Big Ten women's soccer title as voted on by the Conference coaches and announced by the league office today.

The Nittany Lions are coming off a 2004 season that saw them reach the quarterfinal round of the NCAA Championship, their 10th postseason appearance in the program's history. Last year, Penn State finished the conference season with a 9-1 mark and a 19-4-1 overall record.

The Buckeyes enter this year's competition after a successful season in which they finished 7-2 in conference action and 19-4-3 overall.  Ohio State defeated Penn State 2-0 last year in the finals to capture its second consecutive Big Ten Tournament title and appear in its fourth NCAA Championship.  Illinois finished third in the voting, followed by Michigan and Wisconsin.  The complete Big Ten preseason poll appears below.

Regular season play is scheduled to begin Friday, August 26, with all 11 teams in action.
