Four Big Ten Women's Soccer Programs Ranked In National Poll

PARK RIDGE, IL - Four Big Ten women's soccer programs have been named in the national rankings released Wednesday by Soccer Buzz.  Ohio State is the highest-ranked Conference team in the poll at the No. 10 spot.  The Buckeyes finished last season 13-5-3 after ending their 2003 campaign with a 3-0 loss to West Virginia University in the second round of the NCAA tournament.  Penn State, the defending Big Ten champion, holds the No. 12 position, while Michigan and Illinois rank No. 15 and No. 19, respectively.  Michigan ended its season 9-7-6 after losing to Illinois in the title game of the Big Ten Conference Tournament.  Illinois defeated Michigan 2-0 and earned its first-ever League title. 

In addition to the national rankings, the women's soccer-only magazine ranked several Big Ten teams high in the regional polls, as eight squads were named in the Great Lakes region.  Penn State, which finished its 2003 season 19-3-3, took the top spot in the Mid-Atlantic region over Virginia and West Virginia, respectively. 

The Big Ten women's soccer season kicks off on Friday, August 27, with several Conference teams in action.
