Big Ten Women's Soccer Teams Set to Begin 2008 Campaign

The Big Ten women's soccer season officially opens on Friday, August 22, with 10 conference squads in action throughout the weekend.

Friday's home matches include, Minnesota taking on Northern Iowa and Northwestern hosting Nebraska. Games on the road include Indiana at Dayton, Michigan at No. 5 Notre Dame, Michigan State at Oakland, No. 24 Purdue at Kansas and Wisconsin at UW-Milwaukee.

On Saturday, Iowa begins its season at home, hosting Drake while No. 19 Illinois and No. 9 Penn State travel to Missouri and William & Mary, respectively.

To conclude the opening weekend, Minnesota travels to Montana while Michigan journeys to Ypsilanti for a matchup against Eastern Michigan on Sunday. Ohio State will begin its regular season on the road versus UW-Milwaukee on Wednesday, Aug. 27.

In 2007, 10 of the 11 Big Ten schools posted a record of .500 or better prior to conference play. Five of those teams advanced to the NCAA Championship, which tied for third-most in Big Ten history.
