The 2006 Big Ten women's soccer season opens Friday, Aug. 25, with all 11 conference teams in action. No. 3 Penn State debuts at home against No. 2 UCLA in the Penn State Invitational while No. 21 Purdue hosts the Boilermaker Challenge Cup. The 13th-ranked Fighting Illini begin their 2006 campaign against South Carolina at the Missouri Tournament and will be joined by the Iowa Hawkeyes who will take on Mizzou. Indiana travels to Wisconsin to join the Badgers in the Wisconsin Tournament as the Hoosiers are set to face No. 10 California before UW takes on Creighton. It will be a battle of the Chicago-area northsiders with Northwestern heading to DePaul while Michigan, Michigan State, Minnesota and Ohio State are set to open the 2006 season at home.

Big Ten action continues on Sunday as the 2005 conference champion Nittany Lions entertain No. 14 Tennessee while defending tournament champion Wisconsin hosts No. 10 California. Illinois, Indiana, Iowa and Michigan State all continue action on the road while Purdue carries on the Boilermaker Challenge Cup. Northwestern joins Michigan, Minnesota and Ohio State in boasting a home-field advantage during Sunday's action.
