Seven Big Ten schools are either ranked or receiving votes in the latest editions of the two major national women’s soccer polls released Tuesday by the United Soccer Coaches (formerly National Soccer Coaches Association of America/NSCAA) and Soccer America.
In the United Soccer Coaches poll, Penn State leads the Big Ten contingent at No. 9, followed by No. 14 Nebraska, No. 15 Rutgers, No. 22 Northwestern and No. 23 Michigan. Penn State and Michigan moved into the Top 25 this week after not appearing in the preseason poll, while Nebraska moved up eight spots, Rutgers rose six and Northwestern is up one position. In addition, Minnesota and Ohio State received votes in this week’s United Soccer Coaches balloting.
PSU is also among four Big Ten schools appearing in the latest Soccer America poll, with the Nittany Lions holding steady from their No. 3 preseason ranking. Northwestern is at No. 18 this week, followed by No. 20 Rutgers and No. 23 Nebraska. Both Northwestern and Rutgers are up two spots this week, while Nebraska moves into the Soccer America poll for the first time in 2017.
