Northwestern, Illinois Earn First Weekly Awards of 2010

PARK RIDGE, Ill. - Northwestern forward Kate Allen and Illinois defender Danielle Kot have earned the first Big Ten women's soccer Player of the Week awards of the 2010 season, the conference office announced on Monday. Allen takes home the first Offensive Player of the Week and Freshman of the Week honors of the season, while Kot reels in Defensive Player of the Week laurels.

Kate Allen earns her first career weekly awards after leading Northwestern to a 2-1 double-overtime victory over Chicagoland rival DePaul on Aug. 22. Allen tallied her first collegiate goal in the 77th minute, sending a shot from 10 yards out to the back of the net to give the Wildcats the late lead. After DePaul forced overtime with a late goal, Allen ended the game with her second marker of the contest in the 105th minute. The game-winner made Allen the first Northwestern player to score twice in her debut. Her three shots also led the team in the win.

Danielle Kot earns the first Defensive Player of the Week award of 2010 and the first weekly honor of her career for her efforts in Illinois' 2-0 win over Loyola Chicago on Aug. 20.
