PARK RIDGE, Ill. - Illinois' Vanessa DiBernardo, Northwestern's Carolyn Edwards and Ohio State's Lauren Granberg have been awarded the Big Ten women's soccer weekly honors, the conference office announced on Monday. Granberg earns the nod for Offensive Player of the Week, while Edwards receives Defensive Player of the Week honors and DiBernardo earns Freshman of the Week recognition.

Ohio State's Lauren Granberg receives her first career weekly honor after scoring twice in the Buckeyes' 3-1 win over West Virginia on Sunday, Aug. 29. Granberg tallied both the equalizer and go-ahead goal just over a minute apart from each other in Ohio State's comeback win over the Mountaineers. She notched six total shots for the week, recording four against West Virginia and two in the Buckeyes' 2-0 win over Pittsburgh on Friday, Aug. 27.

Northwestern's Carolyn Edwards earns the first weekly laurel of her career after posting two shutouts over the weekend. Edwards made three saves and helped disrupt 10 corner kick opportunities to lead the Wildcats to a 1-0 win over No. 3 UCLA, the highest-ranked team Northwestern has ever defeated, on Sunday, Aug. 29. The senior also made four saves and played 110 scoreless minutes in net to help the Wildcats earn a tie with Cincinnati on Friday, Aug. 27. Currently boasting a 0.30 goals-against average this season, Edwards has held opponents scoreless 13 times in her career, good for third all-time at Northwestern.

Freshman of the Week

Illinois' Vanessa DiBernardo reels in Freshman of the Week honors after tallying two goals on 10 shots for the week, helping the Illini take down Wright State, 3-1, and Ball State, 3-0. DiBernardo scored the first goal of each game, striking in the 30th minute against Wright State and in the 16th minute against Ball State. The freshman currently leads the Big Ten in points (7) through three games, helping the Illini start the season 3-0-0.
