Robertson and Stapleton Honored by Soccer Buzz

Sept. 11, 2007

Ohio State goalkeeper Lauren Robertson and Purdue midfielder Shauna Stapleton were named to the Soccer Buzz Elite Team of the Week, the publication announced on Tuesday. Stapleton and Robertson were named the Big Ten's Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week, respectively, on Monday.

Robertson recorded three shutouts last week, accumulating 13 total saves. The sophomore from Mission Viejo, Calif., has blanked opponents four times, helping the Buckeyes to a conference-best 5-0 record on the strength of a Big Ten-low 0.39 goals-against average. The Team of the Week honor is the second of Robertson's career.

Stapleton scored three of the Boilermakers' four goals over the weekend, including the game-winner as Purdue upset then-No. 1 Portland on Sunday. The senior from Dayton, Ohio, opened the Nike/Husky Invitational with two scores against Washington on Friday, marking her first career multi-goal game.

The honors mark the second straight week that two Big Ten student-athletes have been honored by Soccer Buzz, as Ohio State's Carla Arbulu and Michigan's Madison Gates earned the distinction last week.
