PARK RIDGE, Ill. – Ohio State, Penn State and Wisconsin have earned Big Ten women’s soccer weekly awards, the conference office announced on Monday. Nittany Lion midfielder Ali Schaefer takes home Offensive Player of the Week honors, while Buckeye goalkeeper Katie Baumgardner earns Defensive Player of the Week laurels.  Badger forward Cara Walls receives the nod for Freshman of the Week.

Offensive Player of the Week

Ali Schaefer, Penn State
M – Sr. – Las Vegas, Nev. – Green Valley

  • Notched seven points on three goals and one assist in wins over Northwestern (4-0) and No. 22 Illinois (1-0)
  • Recorded the first multi-goal game of her career against Northwestern, scoring twice
  • Scored the game-winning goal in win over Illinois
  • Earns the first weekly award of her career
  • Last Penn State Offensive Player of the Week: Maya Hayes (Aug. 29, 2011)

Defensive Player of the Week

Katie Baumgardner, Ohio State
GK – Sr. – Sterling, Va. – Potomac Falls

  • Led her team to wins over No. 22 Illinois (2-1) and Northwestern (2-0)
  • Tallied nine saves while allowing just one goal over the weekend
  • Recorded a season-high seven saves in win over the Illini
  • Earns her first weekly award of the season and the second of her career
  • Last Ohio State Defensive Player of the Week: Katie Baumgardner (Nov. 8, 2010)

Freshman of the Week

Cara Walls, Wisconsin
F – Fr. – Wauwatosa, Wis. – Wauwatosa East

  • Scored both Wisconsin goals in win over Michigan State (2-1)
  • Tallied two goals on seven shots over the weekend
  • Leads the Badgers with six goals on the season
  • Earns the second weekly award of her career
