Big Ten Announces Women's Soccer Weekly Honors
Sept. 27, 2010 Big Ten Women's Soccer Weekly Release PARK RIDGE, Ill. - Minnesota's MacKenzie Misel, Ohio State's Paige Maxwell, Purdue's Carianne Betts and Wisconsin's Michele Dalton have been tabbed the Big Ten women's soccer Players of the Week, the conference office announced on Monday. Maxwell receives Offensive Player of the Week honors, while Betts and Dalton take home Co-Defensive Player of the Week accolades and Misel earns the nod for Freshman of the Week. Offensive Player of the Week Ohio State's Paige Maxwell earns her first Offensive Player of the Week honor after scoring the game-winning goal against Michigan in the Buckeyes' Big Ten opener on Sunday. Maxwell broke a scoreless tie in the 85th minute to lead Ohio State to the 2-0 road win. The goal was Maxwell's third of the season, tying her for the team lead. Last Ohio State Offensive Player of the Week: Caitlyn Martin (Sept. 13, 2010) Co-Defensive Players of the Week Purdue's Carianne Betts takes home Co-Defensive Player of the Week accolades after recording back-to-back shutouts against Big Ten opponents over the weekend. The senior made five saves in the Boilermakers' scoreless draw against Wisconsin on Friday before turning away two shots in Purdue's 1-0 win over Northwestern on Sunday. Last Purdue Defensive Player of the Week: Jenny Bradfisch (Sept. 28, 2009) Michele Dalton, Wisconsin Michele Dalton earns Co-Defensive Player of the Week honors for the second straight week after notching back-to-back shutouts to open Big Ten play. Dalton stopped three shots against Purdue on Friday, helping the Badgers to a scoreless draw. The senior followed with a five-save effort en route to a 1-0 win against Indiana on Sunday. Freshman of the Week MacKenzie Misel, Minnesota F/M - Ankeny, Iowa - Ankeny MacKenzie Misel tallied assists on both of Minnesota's goals over the weekend to earn Freshman of the Week honors. Misel's assist against Iowa on Thursday helped the 18th-ranked Gophers take the lead early before earning the 1-1 draw in their Big Ten opener. The freshman also notched a helper on the game-winning goal against No. 20 Illinois on Sunday.
