Women’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week

Laura Heyboer, Michigan State
Fr., F, Hudsonville, Mich. / Unity Christian
Heyboer becomes the first freshman in Big Ten women’s soccer history to garner Offensive Player of the Week honors three times in a single season.  Heyboer had a stellar weekend, recording her second hat trick of the season in a 5-1 Spartan victory over Ohio State.  On Sunday, the MSU forward netted the game-winning goal and tacked on an assist as Michigan State rolled past No. 23 Penn State, 3-1.  Heyboer now has 40 total points on the year which is 11 more than her next closest competitor in the Big Ten.  The Hudsonville, Mich., native also leads the conference in goals (16) and is tied for second in assists with eight.

Last Michigan State Offensive Player of the Week: Laura Heyboer (9/29/08)

Women’s Soccer Defensive Player of the Week

Krystle Kallman, Minnesota
Sr., D, Woodbury, Minn. / Woodbury

Kallman anchored a stingy Minnesota defense this past weekend as the Golden Gophers recorded two 1-0 wins against Big Ten opponents Purdue and No. 16 Illinois.  The Minnesota backline allowed just five shots on goal in the two-game span to post its 11th and 12th shutouts of the season, a new school record.  The Woodbury, Minn., native chipped in on offense, also racking up one assist and one goal over the weekend.  This honor marks the first weekly Big Ten award for Kallman.

Last Minnesota Defensive Player of the Week:  Kelsey Hood (9/22/08)
