Big Ten Women's Soccer Weekly Release

PARK RIDGE, Ill. - The Big Ten Conference has announced its women's soccer Players of the Week with Michigan's Clare Stachel, Michigan State's Jill Flietstra and Ohio State's Rachel Middleman earning recognition. Stachel garners Offensive Player of the Week honors, while Flietstra earns Defensive Player of the Week and Middleman reels in Freshman of the Week accolades.

Offensive Player of the Week
Clare Stachel, Michigan

Michigan's Clare Stachel scored the game-winning goal in back-to-back contests over the weekend to lead the Wolverines to their first conference wins of the season and earn her first career weekly honor. Stachel netted the first game-winner of her career in the 83rd minute of Michigan's contest against Purdue on Thursday, solidifying a 2-1 win. She followed with a goal five minutes into the second half against Indiana on Sunday to give the Wolverines their second goal in a 2-1 victory. The goals were the first of Stachel's season.

Defensive Player of the Week
Jill Flietstra, Michigan State

Michigan State goalkeeper Jill Flietstra posted back-to-back shutouts over the weekend, extending her shutout streak to five matches en route to her third Defensive Player of the Week accolade of the season. Flietstra notched six saves against Oakland in a 2-0 Michigan State win on Thursday before making another six stops in a 1-0 defeat of Northwestern on Sunday. The Spartan keeper has kept opponents out of the net for her last 540:28 in goal and has allowed just one goal since Sept. 5.

Freshman of the Week
Rachel Middleman, Ohio State
GK - Mars, Pa. - North Allegheny

Rachel Middleman earns her second nod for Freshman of the Week after helping Ohio State to two wins against Big Ten opponents over the weekend. The Buckeye goalkeeper recorded three saves against Wisconsin in her sixth shutout of the season, a 1-0 Ohio State win. She then made one save and allowed a goal in Ohio State's 2-1 overtime win over No. 15 Minnesota on Sunday, improving her record in goal to 11-0 this season.
