Oct. 19, 2009
The conference office announced on Monday the ninth weekly women’s soccer award winners for games played through Oct. 12-19. Penn State’s Katie Schoepfer and Wisconsin’s Laurie Nosbusch were tabbed co-Offensive Players of the Week, while Badger newcomer Monica Lam-Feist garnered her second Freshman of the Week award. On the defensive end, Lauren Robertson collects her third weekly laurel of the 2009 campaign.
Co-Offensive Players of the Week:
Katie Schoepfer, Penn State
F - Sr. - Waterford, Conn. – Waterford
Katie Schoepfer collects her fourth career weekly laurel and first in 2009 after propelling Penn State into a tie for first place in the Big Ten standings with an unblemished 1-0-1 record last week. In Friday’s contest against Minnesota, Schoepfer notched her second game-winning goal of the season with six seconds left in regulation to give the Nittany Lions the 1-0 victory on the road. With the win, PSU snapped Minnesota’s 19-game unbeaten streak at home while handing the Golden Gophers their first conference loss of the season. On Sunday, Schoepfer added a goal in a 3-3 tie at Wisconsin, upping Penn State's unbeaten streak to five-consecutive in Big Ten play. Overall, the senior forward recorded four points in the pair of conference matchups, improving her career tally to 104 to become just the seventh PSU student-athlete to break 100-point plateau in program history. Since Big Ten play started, Schoepfer has led the team in scoring, posting goals in six straight games.
Last Penn State Offensive Player of the Week: Danielle Toney (Oct.12, 2008)
Laurie Nosbusch, Wisconsin
F - So. - Mequon, Wis. – Homestead
Sophomore Laurie Nosbusch tallied four points over the weekend as the Badgers rallied at home to salvage a pair of draws in conference action. Against No. 19 Ohio State, Nosbusch slid the ball to freshman Monica Lam-Feist who had a clear shot for the game-tying goal. The sophomore forward then followed Friday’s performance with an assist and the game-tying goal to preserve the 3-3 tie with Penn State. Nosbusch currently leads the team in goals and points, notching at least one point in the last four outings.

Defensive Player of the Week:
Lauren Robertson, Ohio State

Senior goalkeeper Lauren Robertson garnered her 27th career shutout last week while lifting Ohio State to the top of the conference leaderboard. In Friday’s road contest at Wisconsin, Robertson nabbed four key saves to preserve the 1-1 draw against the Badgers. The Mission Viejo, Calif., supported that effort on Sunday by earning her 10th shutout of the season in a 1-0 blanking over Minnesota. Already the Ohio State career shutout leader, Robertson took over first place on the Buckeye season shutout list with the clean sheet. This is the third defensive weekly honor of the season for Robertson.
