Penn State and Wisconsin Earn Women's Soccer Weekly Laurels
Oct. 25, 2010 Big Ten Women's Soccer Weekly Release PARK RIDGE, Ill. - Penn State's Emma Thomson and Hayley Brock and Wisconsin's Laurie Nosbusch have been named the Big Ten women's soccer Players of the Week, the conference office announced on Monday. Nosbusch takes home Offensive Player of the Week honors, while Thomson earns Defensive Player of the Week laurels and Brock receives the nod for Freshman of the Week. Offensive Player of the Week Laurie Nosbusch scored both of Wisconsin's goals against Big Ten foe Michigan State on Friday to earn her second conference Offensive Player of the Week honor this season. Nosbusch scored her first goal off of a rebound in the 23rd minute to put Wisconsin up, 1-0. The junior struck again in the 63rd minute, sending a header to the back of the net to solidify the win. Nosbusch's two-goal day marked her sixth and seventh goals of the season, good for a tie for seventh in the Big Ten. Last Wisconsin Offensive Player of the Week: Laurie Nosbusch (Sept. 20, 2010) Defensive Player of the Week Penn State defender Emma Thomson led a defensive corps that allowed just two shots on goal, helping secure a shutout against No. 13 Illinois on Sunday, to earn her first Big Ten honor of the season. Thomson and the Nittany Lions prevented the Illini, who led the Big Ten in goals per game entering the contest, from getting a shot on net for the first 80 minutes of the match en route to the 2-0 win. Last Penn State Defensive Player of the Week: Krissy Tribbett (Oct. 11, 2010) Freshman of the Week Hayley Brock takes home Freshman of the Week accolades after scoring one of Penn State's two goals in the Nittany Lions' 2-0 shutout of No. 13 Illinois on Sunday. Brock's marker came as an insurance goal in the 27th minute. The goal was her fourth of the season, good for a tie for third among Penn State players.
