Field Set For 2008 Big Ten Women's Soccer Tournament

PARK RIDGE, ILL. - The 2008 Big Ten Women's Soccer Tournament bracket is set and was released today by the conference office. Conference teams closed out their Big Ten schedules Friday. This year's tournament, hosted by the University of Iowa, kicks off on Thursday, Nov. 6 and runs through Sunday, Nov. 9.
Penn State enters the tournament with a conference record of 8-2-0 to garner the number one seed. With 24 total points in the Big Ten regular season, PSU claims at least a share of its 11th-straight conference championship. Squaring off against the Nittany Lions will be No. 8 seed and host Iowa. The Hawkeyes bring a 9-10-1 overall record to the tournament.
Minnesota earned the No. 2 seed in the tournament with a record of 8-2-0, gaining a share of the Big Ten team title with Penn State. The Gophers celebrate their first championship since the 1997 season. Minnesota will match up against seventh-seeded Northwestern, which won its way into the tournament with a 1-0 win over Wisconsin.
Purdue finished the conference regular season with a 5-3-2 record to earn the No. 3 seed. The Boilermakers will take the field against a sixth-seeded Ohio State team that posted a 5-5-0 record in conference play.
This year's No. 4 versus No. 5 game will feature Michigan State as the fourth seed with a Big Ten record of 5-4-1 and Illinois in the fifth spot with a record of 5-5-0.
The Big Ten Network will televise the 2008 Big Ten Women's Soccer Tournament, providing television coverage for the second consecutive season. The semifinals will be played Friday, Nov. 7, at 1 and 3:30 p.m. CT and will be broadcast live by the network. The championship contest will kick off on Sunday, Nov. 9, at 2 p.m. CT with the Big Ten Network providing live coverage.
