Wisconsin Wins Big Ten Women’s Soccer Tournament Title

The second-seeded Wisconsin women’s soccer team won its third Big Ten Tournament Championship after defeating No. 5 Iowa, 1-0, in Sunday’s championship match at Purdue’s Boilermaker Soccer Complex in West Lafayette, Ind. With the victory, the Badgers earned the Big Ten’s automatic berth to the NCAA Tournament.

Kinley McNicoll scored the game-winning goal just over three minutes into double overtime (103:09) to secure the tournament title. Wisconsin goalkeeper Genevieve Richard recorded her Big Ten-leading 15th shutout of the season.

The NCAA Selection Show will air live on NCAA.com on Monday, Nov. 11 beginning at 4:30 p.m. ET.

No. 2 Wisconsin Defeats No. 6 Minnesota, 1 -0

No. 2 Wisconsin defeated No. 6 Minnesota on Friday, and will play No. 5 Iowa in the championship game on Sunday, Nov. 9 at 3 p.m. ET. The Badgers went ahead during the first half with a goal from McKenna Meuer. Brianna Stelzer tallied the assist.

No. 5 Iowa Defeats No. 8 Northwestern, 1-0

No. 5 Iowa defeated No. 8 Northwestern on Friday, and will play in the championship game on Sunday, Nov. 9 at 3 p.m. ET. The Hawkeyes took the lead with a goal in the second half from Cloe Lacasse. Natalie Krygier collected the assist on Iowa’s lone goal, and goalkeeper Hannah Clark tallied seven saves. The Hawkeyes will challenge the winner of the No. 2 Wisconsin vs. No. 6 Minnesota match, which begins at 2 p.m. ET.

Game 4 - Wednesday, Nov. 5

No. 6 Minnesota Defeats No. 3 Michigan, 1-0 (2 OT)

No. 6 Minnesota defeated No. 3 Michigan on Wednesday, and will play in the semifinals of the 2014 Big Ten Tournament on Friday. The Gophers’ Taylor Wodnick scored a goal off of a header to give Minnesota the win in double overtime. Josee Stiever collected the assist. Goalkeeper Tarah Hobbs tallied two saves in the match. Minnesota will challenge No. 2 Wisconsin at 2 p.m. ET on Friday.

Game 3 - Wednesday, Nov. 5

No. 2 Wisconsin Defeats No. 7 Illinois, 2-0

No. 2 Wisconsin defeated No. 7 Illinois to continue into the semifinal round of the 2014 Big Ten Tournament on Friday. The Badgers tallied goals from Cara Walls and Kodee Williams to give them a two goal win over the Illini. Wisconsin’s Kinley McNicoll added an assist to Williams’ goal, and Genevieve Richard recorded four saves. The Badgers will challenge the winner of today’s No. 3 Michigan versus No. 6 Minnesota match in Friday’s semifinal match at 2 p.m. ET.

No. 8 Northwestern will continue on in the 2014 Big Ten Women’s Soccer Tournament after defeating No. 1 Penn State, 1-0. The Wildcats took the lead during the second half with a goal by Michelle Manning. Northwestern’s goalkeeper, Lauren Clem, tallied seven saves in the match. The Wildcats will take on No. 5 Iowa in Friday’s semifinal match at 11 a.m. ET.

No. 5 Iowa advanced to Friday’s semifinals after defeating No. 4 Rutgers, 1-0, in Wednesday’s opening day of the Big Ten Women’s Soccer Tournament. The Hawkeyes were led by Natalie Krygier who scored the lone goal of the match, with Melanie Pickert collecting the assist. Iowa’s goalkeeper Hannah Clark made seven saves.
