Three Big Ten Women's Soccer Teams Earn Bids to 2011 NCAA Championship

Penn State earns its 17th consecutive NCAA Championship appearance.

PARK RIDGE, Ill. – Three Big Ten teams will compete in the NCAA Women’s Soccer Championship, it was announced on Monday. Illinois, Ohio State and Penn State earned berths to the national tournament, which begins Friday.

After winning its second Big Ten Tournament title, Illinois will host Notre Dame on Sunday at 1 p.m. CT in Urbana-Champaign. The Fighting Illini put together a 16-4-2 record this season en route to their second consecutive NCAA Championship appearance and 10th overall.

Ohio State makes its third consecutive appearance in the national tournament and seventh overall, after putting together a 10-8-2 record this season. The Buckeyes will travel to Knoxville to take on Tennessee in their first-round match on Saturday at 5 p.m. ET.

Penn State earns a No. 4 seed and will make its 17th consecutive appearance in the NCAA Championship after recording a 19-4 record this season. The Nittany Lions play host to Army in their first-round game on Friday at 7 p.m. ET.

The first round of the NCAA Women’s Soccer Championship will be played on Friday, Saturday or Sunday. Second- and third-round action will take place Nov. 18 and 20, with the quarterfinals scheduled for Nov. 25, 26 or 27 at campus locations. The 2011 NCAA College Cup will be held in Kennesaw, Ga., with the semifinals on Dec. 2 and the final on Dec. 4.
