Detroit 3, Michigan 2
COLUMBUS, Ohio -- The University of Michigan women's soccer team had its season come to an end with a 3-2 loss to Detroit in the first round of the NCAA Championship Friday afternoon (Nov. 12) at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium. The Wolverines nearly erased a three-goal halftime deficit by scoring two goals and outperforming the Titans 13-1 on the shot chart in the final 45 minutes. Detroit, which earned its first NCAA postseason victory, improves to 14-7-1, while Michigan finishes the year at 11-9-2.

SOUTH BEND, Ind. - Junior midfielder/forward Amy Vermeulen (Saskatoon, Saskatchewan) scored seven minutes into overtime to send the University of Wisconsin women's soccer team to the second round of the NCAA tournament with a 2-1 victory over Dayton.

COLLEGE STATION, Texas-Defense was the name of the game as the Orange and Blue showed their strength in the back, while senior forward Tara Hurless notched both goals for the Illini for a 2-0 shutout of Rice in the first round of the NCAA Tournament. #19 Illinois (14-5-2) moves on to the second round of the tournament to play either #7 Texas A&M or Texas State Sunday at 1:30 p.m.

Columbus, Ohio - The Ohio State women's soccer team (17-3-3) blanked Bowling Green, 2-0, in the first round of the 2004 NCAA Tournament Friday at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium. Lara Dickenmann and Danielle Dietrich both netted second-half goals to extend Ohio State's current win streak to seven matches and setup a second-round meeting with Detroit at 1 p.m. Sunday. The Titans topped Michigan, 3-2, in the first match Friday.

No. 2 Penn State 6, Binghamton 1
STATE COLLEGE, Penn- The No. 2 seed Penn State Nittany Lions defeated Binghamton, 6-1, Friday night in NCAA women's soccer first round action at Jeffrey Field. The Lions will advance to meet Maryland on Sunday at 1 p.m. for a second round match-up. Sophomore Jean Rettig (Hummelstown, Pa.) played an outstanding game for the Lions, and recorded the game-winning goal in the 11th minute of play.
