Samantha Findlay drove in all four U-M runs, the last three with her 10th-inning home run, as the Michigan softball team captured its first national title with 4-1 victory over UCLA on Wednesday, June 8, at the Women's College World Series in Oklahoma City, Okla. After UCLA opened the scoring with a solo home run in the second inning, the Wolverines used a walk and three singles to knot the score in the sixth. Jennie Ritter pitched a five-hitter for her 38th win, giving U-M its 52nd overall national championship and first since 2001.

After 11 scoreless innings against UCLA over two games, the No. 1-seeded Michigan softball team broke through with four runs in the fifth inning Tuesday, June 7, en route to a 4-2 victory at the Women's College World Series in Oklahoma City, Okla. The win evened the best-of-three championship series at a game apiece. Becky Marx tied the game with two-run home run and Jessica Merchant added a two-run double to key the Wolverines' fifth. The national title will be decided Wednesday with a 6:30 p.m. CDT contest on ESPN.

Oklahoma City, Okla.-- No. 7 seed UCLA grabbed a 1-0 lead in the best-of-three championship series with a 5-0 shutout of top-seeded Michigan on Monday, June 6, at the Women's College World Series in Oklahoma City, Okla. The Bruins sent 10 batters to the plate in the sixth inning and scored five runs on three hits, two hit batters, an error and a wild pitch, while U-M was held to four hits in the game. The Wolverines, who reached the final round with a 3-2 win over Tennessee earlier in the day, will try to even the series Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. CDT on ESPN.
